Downtown Phoenix
When the business day ends, the fun begins in downtown Phoenix.
This is where you’ll find sports arenas, live music, rooftop lounges, museums, theaters, art galleries and more than 200 restaurants.
Pro sports and music events are almost always afoot at Footprint Center (home of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury ), or Chase Field (home of the Arizona Diamondbacks ), and Roosevelt Row is the place to go for coffee shops, craft beers and First Friday Art Walks.
- Phoenix Art Museum is the largest art museum in the Southwest and home to both contemporary and classic pieces.
- The Children's Museum of Phoenix engages kids with hands-on, interactive experiences.
- The Heard Museum is renowned for its collection of American Indian art and artifacts.
- Geek out at the Arizona Science Center and its fun and educational exhibits for all ages.
- Opt for a self-guided art walk along Roosevelt Row to see the creative, colorful work of local street artists and enjoy unique culinary experiences.
Insider Tip: Regardless of the temperature outside or your fitness level, ALWAYS use sunscreen and take along water on every hike!
Take a Hike (literally)!
When in Phoenix, you're never far from desert adventure.
The area is home to dozens of parks and preserves—both in and around the city—offering hundreds of miles of multi-use trails for hiking and biking.
From leisurely strolls that meander around the red rock buttes of Papago Park, to the strenuous and rewarding climb to the peak of iconic Camelback Mountain, there's a trail for nearly every type of adventurer.
Retail Therapy
From charming antique shops to chic boutiques to some of the nation’s most fashionable shopping centers, Greater Phoenix can claim some of the best retail therapy in the Southwest.
The basic breakdown for where to find what goes like this: Scottsdale for high fashion; Central Phoenix for vintage finds; Uptown Phoenix for hipster goods; and Downtown Glendale for antiques.

Day Trippin'
Phoenix is a hub for a number of memorable day trips that allow you to explore Arizona for the day and be back in town by night.
Scenic Sedona
The cultural community of Sedona is a mecca for both art lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Surrounded by the towering red sandstone cliffs of Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona’s deep red-rock buttes provide a beautiful backdrop to boutiques and art galleries selling authentic Native American and Southwestern arts and crafts.
Sedona is a 2-hour drive from Phoenix. Take Interstate 17 north from Phoenix to Junction 179. Click here to view BWH Hotels in Sedona.
The Grand Canyon
One of the world’s seven natural wonders, the Grand Canyon offers spectacular vistas of canyon walls that have been sculpted from the earth over the millennia by the mighty Colorado River. The shifting sun creates a palette of constantly changing colors, from deep russet to pale pink, from washed granite to golden brown. The South Rim is open year-round.
The south rim of Grand Canyon National Park is a 3.5-hour drive from Phoenix. Take Interstate 17 north from Phoenix to Flagstaff. From Flagstaff take Route 180 northwest to the south entrance and the park's visitor center. Or take Highway 89 to Route 64 to the park's east entrance.
